This coming September, the most highly-anticipated superhero video game in years arrives exclusively on Sony's PlayStation 4 console. Like most of superhero gaming fandom, Comics on Consoles is caught up in the hype concerning Marvel's Spider-Man developed by Insomniac Games, and we're going to celebrate its arrival the only way we know how: with a new issue!
As announced at the conclusion of issue #10 focusing on Secret Level's Iron Man, the focus of Comics on Console Issue #11 will be one of the most important superhero video games ever created: Spider-Man, developed by Neversoft and published by Activision in the year 2000 for the Sony PlayStation, Nintendo 64, and Sega Dreamcast.
While not the first 3D superhero video game, Spider-Man was – by every conceivable metric – the most important one. In addition to being a critical hit upon its initial release, Spider-Man also proved to be a foundational building block toward every other 3D third-person superhero action game we enjoy today, building upon early 3D game innovations to make for a unique and representative interactive experience for one of comics' most beloved icons.
Be on the lookout for a specific release date for issue #11, which will also include a panel of guests (still to-be-announced) that are some of the most knowledgeable comic book video game analysts around today! We can't wait to bring our next issue to you in September!
